Coachella is over but the summer concert season, as Karen Carpenter put it, has only just …begun. So if you’ve fully recovered from sweating your pants off in Palm Springs, where are you going to take in some tunes in the sun next? Head out to these places and get your groove back like Stella did.

Here are some faves that are tried and true, that we want to try, and that we will be trying this season. You should too!

1. Outside Lands — August
Last year was a blast and this year’s line-up promises to keep the tradition. With Wine Lands wine tasting and Taste of the Bay Area food available, we’re certain all your senses will get some loving. Golden Gate Park is a historical site with a Japanese tea garden, a conservatory, ponds, meadows and more. We love San Francisco so it’s a great excuse to get up there and eat lots of treats and drink local brew. See the full festival line-up.

2. Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza — August
It’s one of our favorite beer festivals in one of our favorite places. Certainly, we go to this festival for the beer music. Mammoth Brewing Company sponsors the fest which features unlimited tasting from over 60 breweries, often with their very own brewers on hand to tell you about what you’re drinking … in a forest … in the mountains … in the summertime. See the festival line-up and breweries.

3. Austin City Limits — September
It’s called the “Live Music Capital of the World,” so it’s no shocker that the early bird passes sold out last October. We don’t really need an excuse to dress like an Austinite and have our eardrums blown out, but with a history of line-ups featuring artists like Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Pat Green and Miike Snow, we’re sure that this year, the 10th anniversary will not disappoint. Full line-up coming soon.

4. Pickathon — August
The three day festival takes place on over 80 acres of the Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, OR. Besides a solid ‘indie roots’ music line-up that includes Vetiver, Fruit Bats and Lee Fields & The Expressions, the festival has camping, beer gardens, craft vendors and thoughtful alternative transportation plans for visitors. See the full festival line-up.

5. Bonnaroo — June
Celebrating its tenth year, Bonnaroo has (once again) a tremendous line-up of hairy talent, including Robert Plant, Dan Auerbach, Explosions in the Sky, The White Buffalo and way too much more. In addition to massive crowds of sweaty people, the Coachella of the midwest has a Broo’ers Festival with over 20 different breweries from all over the US and a very green trading post that turns recyclables on the grounds into festival currency. We think this fest is a great excuse to don your boots and head to Nashville. See the festival line-up.

6. Hipnic — May
FolkYeah’s Hipnic in Big Sur features the faces behind bigger bands including Al Jardine (The Beach Boys), Farmer Dave Scher (Beachwood Sparks) and Andy Cabic (Vetiver). At the Fernwood Resort you can stay in a cabin, tent, RV … you name it. They even have a tavern and gross hot tubs as evidenced by their beautiful website photos, circa 1976. See the festival line-up.

7. Santa Monica Pier Twilight Dance Series — Ongoing
Head to the pier for live music while the sun sets. We’ve enjoyed going to these every year to catch artists and legends like Dick Dale, Breakestra, Joan Baez and Patti Smith. Now that they’ve added Seaside Wine Tasting with Wally’s Wines, there’s no excuse not to head out. Concerts every Thursday at 7 PM starting in late June or early July. Full line-up coming soon.

8. Little Radio’s Summer Camp — Ongoing
The legendary backyard bash that happens in the skeevier parts of Downtown L.A. has previously featured the talents of Shephard Fairey, Har Mar Superstar and our favorite folk kids, Restavrant, while cooking up goodness from local bratmasters Wurstkuche. Kiddie pools and bad beer work so well together. If this year will be like those before, we’re guessing they’ll have the 2011 schedule up soon saying “Sundays at noon all summer!”

9. The Greek Theater — Ongoing
For a venue hidden back in a pretty little quiet neighborhood there’s certainly a lot of rocking that goes down at the Greek. Catch bigger bands, like Alison Krauss & Union Station or WAR, in a setting that feels small. We found that parking near Los Feliz Blvd., having a bite on Hillhurst, then walking to our seats made for a hassle-free evening. But get to your show on time! They have a night time noise cut-off at 10:30 PM! See the venue’s full schedule.

10. The Mishawaka Amphitheater — Ongoing
Sitting on the Cache la Poudre River in the Roosevelt National Forest in Bellevue, CO, the Mishawaka Amphitheater has recently changed ownership but is still hosting big acts. The Waterfront Festival sounds like our kind of party with camping and twanging under the stars by Gregory Alan IsakovGreensky Bluegrass and more. Three day passes for the event and campgrounds are only $100 a pop! Since it’s on a river, that means there’s rafting nearby too. See the full festival line-up.

11. Red Rocks Amphitheater — Ongoing
After exhausting ourselves at GABF in Denver we were lucky enough to have a local drive us through the very scenic Red Rocks Amphitheater. Sunshine, tailgating, hiking and biking trails, live music, frisbee … we obviously needed more days in Denver. The huge naturally formed venue is surrounded by, you guessed it, spectacular massive red rock monoliths! This summer’s schedule includes acts like The Flaming Lips with Primus, Ray LaMontagne, The Avett Brothers and more. See the venue’s full schedule.

12. Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace — Ongoing
Eagles of Death Metal, Peaches, Cold War Kids — just a few of the bands that have played in this tiny desert venue. Hollywood investors founded Pioneertown just north of Palm Springs in 1946, intent on building it as an old west movie set. The facade became a cantina and then an “outlaw biker burrito bar” before becoming the restaurant and club it is today. See the venue’s full schedule.

There are many good spots out there to explore so go pick one and start dancing.

Don’t forget these other fun fests:
Sunset Junction Street Fair — home of historical line-ups and local deliciousness.
Silverlake Jubilee — support smaller local bands and have a happy day out in Silver Lake.
PacSun Beach Ballyhoo — For some good wholesome fun in the sun at the beach.
The Starlight Bowl — near Stough Canyon’s hiking trails and De Bell’s golf course, it’s the perfect small local venue for kicking back in the grass.
San Diego Street Scene – will it happen? We hope so!
