As Los Angeles welcomes the chic new 74-room boutique hotel, The Hotel Wilshire, to the Miracle Mile, we also welcome Chef Eric Greenspan of The Foundry on Melrose’s next culinary gem – The Roof on Wilshire. This rooftop dining experience includes a pool, lounge, bar, and a 360 degree view of the Los Angeles skyline. Not to mention an exciting breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bar menu.

From the Ground Up to the Rooftop Eatery

Generally accustom to cooking on solid ground, Chef Eric Greenspan brings us a different style of cuisine at a different style of venue, poolside on the roof. Chef Greenspan tells us, the concept behind The Roof on Wilshire is essentially “poolside dining in a lounge environment – a moveable feast.” The cuisine being American with a twist on the familiar that is more accessible, yet unique, as the venue lends itself to grazing and roaming.

The Menu

Chef Greenspan has not forgotten about what being a chef means at its core, “as chefs, we’re here to take care of people,” and it shows in his menu. From the brunch menu’s pancake lasagna – layers of pancakes , eggs, sausage, cheese, and maple syrup, to the bar menu’s Nori Nachos – house made rice and nori chips, tuna tartare, spicy salmon roe and honey soy sauce, this well rounded menu covers a lot of ground. As Chef Greenspan tells us, this is “food that is technically sound, food that has flavors intensified, but wrap them in a package that you want to open before you even eat it.”

Of course we can’t forget the drinks. Delivering a wide variety of cocktails, wines, and beers, the libations are sure to please.

More to Come

If lounging and comfort food are not what you’re looking for? Look no further as Chef Greenspan will be opening another venue at The Hotel Wilshire catering to an upscale crowd and serving high end, refined dining. As Chef Greenspan tells us, this restaurant is “sleek, elegant, and the best thing is it seats 36.” The cuisine and restaurant name has yet to be revealed, but you can expect its arrival this coming November.

When Being a Couch Potato..

So what are you doing Saturday morning? Beginning Saturday, September 10th, Chef Eric Greenspan will be co-hosting “Fix This Kitchen” on A&E at 9:30 AM where Chef Greenspan and his team destroy and rebuild home kitchens in 5 days. You can also find Chef Greenspan on “Bar Rescue” on SpikeTV.

As Chef Greenspan tells us, “at the Roof on Wilshire, we try to be accessible enough for your everyday traveler, but at the same time, creative enough to keep foodies interested for many years; we cook for people.”
