The Beer Chicks Raise Craft Beer Awareness for Los Angelenos
About 1,600 people took part in the Los Angeles Craft Beer Crawl last Saturday in downtown Los Angeles. The event was curated and organized by The Beer Chicks, Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune, the authors of “The Naked Pint: An Unadulterated Guide to Craft Beer,” and 213 Inc. Seven bars took part, along with 29 different breweries pouring over 90 craft brews. The event could’ve easily been a mindless drunk fest, but for The Beer Chicks, it was all about educating newcomers to the world of craft beer.
Show Up and Drink Up!
Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune invited owners, brewers and representatives of the beer community to attend the crawl to educate those that were interested in learning about what they were drinking. CEO of Stone Brewing Co., Greg Koch made an appearance to preach about not drinking “fizzy yellow beer” at Seven Grand, one of the bars where their beers were being poured.

Local brewers from across Southern California like Mark Jilg of Craftsman Brewing Co., Victor Novak of TAPS, Rich Marcello of Strand Brewing Co., Jerry Kolbly of Noble Ale Works and Jeremy Raub of Eagle Rock Brewery all showed up to strut their artisanal beers to an inquiring crowd.
Jerry Kolbly, owner of Noble Ale Works from Anaheim, CA, felt highly positive about the event. He tells us that, “It’s our first time being here. I think L.A. has a good market for us. We showed up to test the market and it worked out really well. We met some great people from here.”
Talking to the Chicks
It wasn’t all work during the crawl for The Beer Chicks. “We enjoy walking around downtown L.A., looking at all the architecture, having some food, drinking tons of beers, it’s awesome,” Hallie says.
As for next year’s LA Craft Beer Crawl, The Beer Chicks already have plans in mind. “An app would be awesome for next year. We want to have an app for all the 213 Inc. places, like what beers are on tap,” Christina tells us.

Additionally, The Beer Chicks are planning on creating an app for their new craft beer take-out store the “8th Street Bottle Shop,” sitting inside the Golden Gopher, also a 213 Inc. establishment. “We want it to tell you what beers we have in-stock because it’s going to change constantly. Also what beers you would pair with if you were to cook duck or lamb for your dinner party.” Christina says.
Besides the bottle shop, working on curating all of 213 Inc.’s beer taps including Casey’s Irish Pub, Golden Gopher, Broadway Bar, Cole’s, Seven Grand, Las Perlas, and Caña Rum Bar. Christina and Hallie are working on their second book “The Naked Brewer,” about home brewing. These are definitely a couple of chicks you’d want to hang out with.
