The original Lucky Baldwins Pub in Pasadena, CA was opened 15 years ago by David Farnworth and Peggy Simonian, long before Los Angeles went into a craft beer frenzy. On October 18, during LA Beer Week, beer lovers will get a chance to visit all three Lucky Baldwin Pub locations on an exclusive bus tour featuring over 100 beers on tap including Stone Brewing Co., Pasadena’s very own Craftsman Brewing Company and breweries across Southern California.

Old School

David and Peggy were the ones responsible for bringing Delirium Tremens to Los Angeles. Peggy tells us, “The beer world has hugely changed over the past 15 years since we first went into this. We worked hard. We made the right connections, we paved the way and here we are 15 years later.” In 2005, they opened up a second location in Sierra Madre, CA, and earlier this year, Lucky Baldwins Trappiste Pub & Cafe in Pasadena, CA, near Pasadena City College, was born. With three locations, Peggy thinks L.A. should have more quality breweries. “The more the merrier. We want a lot of good beers to put in our taps.”

The Tour

Lucky Baldwins’ Event Coordinator, Penny Wilhelm, came up with their salute to LA Beer Week with Lucky Baldwins “Exclusive” Pub Tour. Their plan is to pay homage to Lucky Baldwins and to those that paved the way for Los Angeles beer, like Mark Jilg of Craftsman Brewing Company. “Mark has been around and helped us with our business right from day one, he’s very much a part of the furniture here. He’s up the road. He’s progressed with us.” Peggy tells us.

The cost of the event is $45 which includes a festival t-shirt, a glass, three drink tickets, special refill prices and transportation available every 20 minutes from 7 PM – 12 AM to take you to another location. A special note, Stone Brewing Co.’s President Steve Wagner and Craftsman Brewing Company’s Owner Mark Jilg will both be attending the event.

Peggy tells us, “it should be a really great, spectacular, super exclusive Lucky Baldwins night. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
