Pie and Booze are a Tasty Twosome
We’ve embraced the frozen yogurt obsession and the cupcake craze — now it’s pie’s turn. Grandma has been baking this dessert as long as we can remember, but now it’s making a comeback — with alcohol as its sidekick.
A Match Made in Pie Heaven
All Jarred Up, the Etsy-based sweets company specializing in travel-sized pies and treats baked in reusable mason jars, joined forces with Vintage Enoteca for a pie and wine tasting in April. Three All Jarred Up pies were paired with a different wine. Vintage Enoteca Owner Jennifer Moore explained the pairings:
- “How Do You Like Them Apples?” apple crumb pie with the Meulenhof Riesling Kabinett — the minerality and apple notes of the wine pair perfectly with the pie.
- “Very Very Berry” strawberry and blueberry pie with Barbolini Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro — the dry wine’s natural cherry and berry notes enhance the flavors of the pie.
- “P is for Pecan” pecan pie with El Maestro Sierra Pedro Ximénez — the sweet sherry has natural caramel notes and a nuttiness that works with the warm pecan pie.
All Jarred Up Founder & Head Baker Teri Hiles handcrafts these portable pies. They offer comforting classic flavors and funkier flavors like “Kiss Me I’m Irish Whiskey,” a whiskey enhanced apple pie. Right now, All Jarred Up is based online but they have hopes to open a brick and mortar location in the future.
