There’s more to Mammoth Lakes, CA than skiing and snow sports. The mountain town is a refreshing getaway in the summer too. The Mammoth Lakes Blue Sky Fest (August 12-15) celebrates summer time with a weekend of music, film, outdoor activities and food! Sarah Mason of Harvest Moon Presents tells us the Blue Sky Fest is “a result of what’s special and unique about Mammoth and the Eastern Sierra.” The festival is “a progressive lifestyle celebration promoting healthy, eco-conscious living for people and the planet.”

Get Your Groove On

The Mammoth Blue Sky Fest promises an eclectic and energetic band lineup. Thursday night is the World Beat Dance Party, Funk ‘N Fusion Friday comes next and Rock ‘N Reggae is on Saturday. The festival features 10 bands including the Refugee All Stars from Sierra Leone, Ozomatli, Soulive and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

See Movies with a Message

Five films will be screened during the festival — “Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars Documentary,” “Bear Whisperer,” “Earth Days,” “Fresh” and “Steep: The World of Extreme Skiing.” The Blue Sky Film Fest is “a one-of-a-kind film festival focusing on one-of-a-kind films you won’t see just anywhere.”

Get Active

The activity schedule is probably the most impressive part of Blue Sky Fest. The schedule offers everything from a hot creek walk with the U.S. Forest Service to Vinyasa yoga and fly fishing. Festivalgoers will be able to burn calories with the tour of Mammoth bike challenge, trail running and kayaking. Don’t fret — the youngins aren’t left out! Yoga is also offered for children ages 3 to 10.

Take a Bite Out of Life

Sarah explains the festival’s food vendors are “focused on preparing and serving healthy, delicious, convenient and affordable food that contributes to a healthier environment.” Food vendors include Full of Life Pizza, Java Joint, Stellar’s Brew, The Mill Cafe, Laguardia’s Homemade Sausage, Farmer’s Market Kettle Corn and Thaid Up. Sarah says the menu will offer certified-organic flat bread pizzas, beef, shrimp, vegetables and chicken skewers over brown rice and quinoa, healthy wraps/sandwiches, spring rolls and more. Plus, the Mammoth Brewing Company will be on tap to provide you with a cold brewski.
