Singles like me are usually lost and forgotten on February 14. Brandon Karam, Matthew Grant, Robert Van Delden, and Ross Mery of SocialDing.com have come up with a way for lone individuals to meet new people during Valentine’s Day weekend with a few drinks — and a wig!

We’re not talking about speed dating, people. Social Ding is hosting the Love is in the Hair bar crawl in Austin, TX. “Love is in the Hair came from the fondness that many people have for rocking the wig,” Brandon Karam explains. “Themes in general provide a great way for people at an event to interact by establishing common ground. It’s also a really easy way to get into the party mood.”

Come One, Come All

Brandon says the crawl is open to anyone — whether you are in a relationship or not. “We wanted to incorporate Valentine’s Day because it is usually a pretty popular holiday to celebrate at the bars, whether it be because you feel like canoodling with your significant other for all to be jealous (or repulsed) or because you are single and feel like PDA-ing in public with a stranger for one night.”

You’ll be able to spot Brandon on the crawl. He’ll be the one in the George Washington wig. He jokes, “I’ve wanted an excuse to wear a powdered wig for about two years now and I’ve finally gotten my chance.” If you don’t have a presidential wig, or a pop star wig like mine (pictured above), you can stop by Lucy in Disguise where they are running a  promotion. All about the Bars

The participating bars for Love is in the Hair are all popular bars on the historic West 6th Street in Austin. The bars include Annie’s West, The Dogwood, The Peached Tortilla, Colibri Cuisine, Union Park, Molotov Lounge, J. Black’s Feel Good Lounge and One Taco.

Brandon tells us West 6th Street traditionally charges more for drinks than other areas of Austin, but he got a deal! He says, “Each bar was willing to give us the great event-wide drink specials of $2 domestic beers and $3 well liquors, in addition to one specialty drink discount at each bar.” The specials include $2 Star F**ker shots, $4 Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka, $2 Love Cider, $4 Frozen Mojitos, $4 Specialty Martinis and more.

Currently, Social Ding’s bar crawls are every other month. The site would like to continue the bar crawls and eventually plan smaller themed parties, private parties and other fun social activities.
