Bar Fight! Longboards Ice Cream’s Sweet and Salty Hit
The comical boys of Longboards Ice Cream have their stick shtick down! We talked to them at Thursday’s Downtown Los Angeles Artwalk about their new and dangerous addition to the menu — Bar Fight.
Surfer Dude Sweet Treats
We first met Mike Stebinger and Finau Tafua of Longboards Ice Cream at the PacSun Beach Ballyhoo concert in June. We thought it was too good to be true — ice cream on a stick with whatever topping(s) you want and the price stays the same! The bars are reasonably priced at $3 a pop.
Fight, Fight!
Mike’s favorite bar is the Bar Fight. “What’s the best snack at a bar? Pretzels or peanuts?” he asked. Longboards lets you decide! The Bar Fight is a chocolate bar dipped in milk chocolate and then it’s rolled in pretzels on one side and peanuts on the other. How do they come up with this stuff?! “Well, last time we got in a bar fight, that’s what was on our shirts when we got up,” Mike joked.
Some of the signature boards include Coco Squared (a coconut bar dipped in dark chocolate and rolled in coconut shavings), The Big O (a cookies ‘n cream bar dipped in milk chocolate and rolled in Oreo crumbles) and the “O.G” (a strawberry bar covered in thick caramel, dipped in milk chocolate and rolled in peanuts on one side and crushed waffle cone on the other). While we visited the truck on Thursday night, the boys came up with the Business in the Front, Party in the Back bar — any bar dipped in rainbow sprinkles on one side and chocolate sprinkles on the other. Yum.
Not Like Fro-Yo
Frozen yogurt is, like, so last year. Longboards Ice Cream is all natural and they don’t use chemicals that hurt your tummy. The truck also uses California’s own Ghirardelli milk and dark chocolate. Plus, wait time is always at a minimum. There’s rarely a line for the truck because Mike is so speedy when it comes to dipping and rolling!
Get Your Fix
“Naked” Longboards Ice Cream bars are available at Gelson’s Super Markets in Cali and online. The truck will be rolling at the OC Foodie Fest on August 28 in Anaheim. They also cater events from birthday parties to corporate shindigs.
