‘Jersey Boys’ Las Vegas — An Enjoyable Evening at the Theatre for Young and Old Alike

Every time I’m in Las Vegas (or Lost Wages), I spend too much money on booze and blackjack and I leave the desert hungover and broke. Next time you’re in Sin City, skip the clubs for just one night and check out one of the fantastic shows on the Las Vegas strip for an evening you’re sure to remember. One of my favorite Las Vegas shows is “Jersey Boys” — the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
Big Man in Town
“Jersey Boys” Las Vegas isn’t a new addition to town; it premiered on May 3, 2008 (Frankie Valli’s 74th birthday!), but since there’s so much to do in Las Vegas, sometimes the gems of the strip can get lost and forgotten. The stunning custom-built theatre at The Palazzo is the only place on the West Coast where you can see “Jersey Boys” and hear the story about one of the most successful rock ‘n roll groups of the 60s.
The Tony award-winning show features 20 Four Seasons songs including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Walk Like a Man” and “Oh, What a Night.” Rick Faugno and Travis Cloer split the role of Frankie Valli since this role is very vocally demanding. The Vegas show is the only production where the actors playing Frankie Valli share the role 50-50. Jeff Leibow plays Nick Massi, Deven May is Tommy DeVito and Peter Saide plays Bob Gaudio.
No Generation Gap
My parents saw the touring cast when “Jersey Boys” was in Washington, D.C. and they loved it because the music is from their generation. My mom bought the soundtrack and listens to it non-stop. The tumultuous story of a music group climbing the charts is a tale that both young and old can enjoy. When I say “young,” I am referring to audience members over the age of 14. Mature audiences are recommended because of sexual content and strong language but all ages can enjoy the music, incredible vocal talent and flashy costumes. I really enjoyed the Roy Lichtenstein-inspired pop-art projections (See photo above) and the versatile, simplistic set.
Seeing “Jersey Boys” in Vegas is an excellent escape from the bright neon lights and dry heat. While the characters take you on the journey of their life, you will no longer feel like you are in Las Vegas. You too will be back in New Jersey, and I’m not talking about the “Jersey Shore.” An extra bonus comes as the end! Some tickets offer a free drink at LAVO — the upscale celebrity hotspot inside The Palazzo.
