Goulash, Bratwurst, and Beer, Oh, My! Oktoberfest at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort
As the fall slowly creeps in on sunny Southern California, so does the annual celebration of Oktoberfest. For all 31 days in the month of October, the Balboa Bay Club and Resort, the waterfront resort in Newport Beach, will be serving up their Annual Oktoberfest menu for lunch and dinner in The First Cabin Restaurant, and appetizers in the Duke’s Place lounge. The German and Bavarian menu is created by Executive Chef Josef Lageder, honoring the traditional festivities of Oktoberfest.
German Fare
Well, its Oktoberfest, so what else could you expect from Chef Lageder’s menu? It consists of starters such as Lisen Suppe – lentil soup with applewood smoked bacon and sliced Wurstchen, main courses feature Paprika Goulash – slow braised beef and homemade spaetzle, and Wienerschnitzel – center cut breaded veal loin served with a potato cucumber salad, and desserts like Apfelstrudel Mit Schlagrahm – warm apple strudel with vanilla bean ice cream and creme anglaise, just to name a few. Of course, we can’t forget the celebratory beers complementing the cuisine which include imports like Paulaner Bier and Innstadt Oktoberfest “Stadi.”
The Alternative
The Balboa Bay Club and Resort’s Oktoberfest celebration gives you an alternative to the crowds you’d normally see at the local fair-type events by offering a more intimate and slower paced venue. So if roaming festivals isn’t your thing, you got options.
