ting su teaches ladies about craft beer in los angelesEagle Rock Brewery is going to teach the ladies a thing or two about beer. Every third Wednesday of the month, the brewery’s own Ting Su leads a women’s beer forum to show us drinking doesn’t have to be a weak, syrupy experience. Each ladies night focuses on a different beer theme. April’s focus: beers with flowers!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

In the spirit of spring, Wednesday’s flight showcased beer with floral notes or flowers as adjuncts. This seems pretty fitting for a brewery whose popular Manifesto Witbier is made with rose petals straight out of the brewery’s family rose garden.

Hard to find beers like Elysian‘s Avatar Jasmine IPA and Craftsman’s Sour Lavender ale were carefully curated via a wild-goose chase thanks to Eagle Rock Brewery employees and friends. We only see stuff like this at bottle shares, which are usually dude-fests (not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

Pucker Up

Beer lovers, noobs and home brewer gals enjoyed four 5 oz. tasters of beers and a 90 minute forum for $12. Our new friends Julie and Amy came from Sylmar and Downtown L.A. and chose Craftsman’s Lavender Sour as their favorite. Listen to The Sound of 69 Women Liking Craft Beer.

The girl-powered Mandoline Grill food truck was onsite to feed the femme faces and leftover beer was available for purchase in the taproom afterward. Ting suggested pairing these lovely brews with a salad, maybe even one with edible flowers.

And now, the flight sheet:

In March, Ting showcased fruit beers. Next month, she’s contemplating another fancy focus: Méthode Champenoise beers. Learn about this technique by reading Drew Beechum‘s explanation here.
