eagle-rock-brewery-teamL.A.’s Eagle Rock Brewery released their first ever IPA to a busy tap room on Friday and shared the piney brew all weekend with fans. We stopped in and snatched a growler on our way out to Vegas and talked to the guys about the beer and what’s new since our last visit.

Pints of Piney Delight

Owner/brewer Steve Raub was pleased to share his excitement over their new brew Populist. He described the beer as having a strong malt backbone and added, “When you first smell the aroma, it’s like stepping into a pine forest.” Jeremy Raub shared his pictures of the brewing process with us which included using a hopback. A hopback is a sealed steel container that captures all the aroma and flavor from the hops that would usually be boiled off during brewing.

Also on the menu at the tap room was Equinox, their young sour ale, a very refreshing brew that our beer-newbie pals enjoyed too. If you aren’t jumping on the sour beer bandwagon just yet and are looking for a gateway sour, try Equinox. It’s not so sour that you’ll pucker up and it’s very juicy with fruity notes.

What Goes Around Comes Around

Brewer Patrick Morse and the Raubs were carrying some boxes of bottles around behind the counter while the Bakofsky brothers of the Eastside Brewers filled up my little brown jug. They are prepping bottles of their beer, including Red Velvet and Solidarity, for the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. We can’t wait to get our hands on our own bottles one day soon so we can continue to spread the beer love around.

We brought our growler to Vegas where we shared the IPA with Burger Bar‘s Head Bartender Eric C. Kelley and Bar Manager Lloyd Funtanilla. Deliciousness ensued. Next time we’ll bring them some bottles!

Go get some IPA for yourself this weekend at their taproom and while you’re there have a Manifesto toast with the hard working team. The popular Witbier should be available again by then.
