Ain’t no party like a Drink Eat Travel party, ’cause a Drink Eat Travel party don’t stop! Filmmakers celebrated the 29 teams that competed in the Los Angeles Film Race 2010 at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica.

West Coast Party

The Los Angeles Film Race 2010 shorts were screened at the Writer’s Boot Camp at Bergamot Station on Thursday evening. Teams including X Marks the Spot, Farmers & Merchants, Great Escape, Danger House, Earned Luck, Gremlins, Talking Dog Productions and HiJacK hit up the afterparty at Library Alehouse. Film Racers didn’t have to be “quiet” in this library. Teams socialized, sipped craft beer and enjoyed scrumptious food. We recommend the pumpkin ravioli — it’s flavorful and creamy but not too heavy, plus it gets you in the mood for fall and Halloween! The night belonged to Danger House (pictured above) after their zombie film “Precious Moments” earned the Audience Award.

Can You Make a Film in 24 Hours?

The Los Angeles Film Race 2010 kicked off on Friday, October 15. Local filmmakers were challenged to create an original short film in 24 hours based on a theme and surprise element assignment. At 10 PM on Friday night the teams were assigned the theme “Fame” and butter was the surprise element. The top films will be competing for over $30,000 in cash and prizes against filmmakers across North America.

The judges for the Los Angeles Film Race include Andrew Dickler (Editor-turned-actor starring in the motion picture “Douchebag”), Judd Nissen (Film and Television Producer. Produced “Outing Riley”, Project Greenlight winner Pete Jones’ second feature, Discovery Channel’s “Biker Build Off,” and was the co-creator/producer/director of “Behind the Scenes at The World Poker Tour.”), Reggie Hayes (Actor), Brent Simon (President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association), Amy Nicholson (Editor of Boxoffice Magazine and Film Critic at the Inland Empire Weekly), Justin Klosky (actor and entrepreneur, founder of Organize & Create Discipline), James Sheldon (Writer/Producer), and Stevie Ryan (Actress/Writer/Producer, best known for her online series “LittleLoca”, “Scene Kid Love” and “The Islands”).

The other 15 awards including Best Film, Best Direction and Best Writing will be announced in the next few weeks. Good luck to all the teams!
