Kona Brewing Company, Koko Marina: The Nine Mile Bike-to-Beer Challenge
May 10th

While visiting Waikiki, Hawaii, I had several missions, including petting a chicken, passing out in the sand, and drinking native beer. Maui Brewing Co., sadly, is in Maui, so I couldn’t get there. Kona Brewing Co. has their main brewery on the Big Island, so that was off the list too. However, the Kona Brewing Co. Pub is in the Koko Marina, about nine miles from Waikiki. A bike rental was in order, though in retrospect, next time I might opt for the bus. More >
Chaya Venice’s 20th Anniversary Party Brings All The Boys and Girls To The Yard
Apr 26th

If you didn’t have fun at the Chaya Venice all you can eat and drink extravaganza, you’ll need to check on your fun-meter. If there were a mathematical formula for throwing good parties it would be:

It’s definitely not the Pythagorean theorem but that’s all I could come up with. Evidently, I didn’t go beyond grade school geometry.
It Wasn’t Even Happy Hour and People Were Happy
One of my priorities in life is to be happy and if happiness comes from a cuisine that blends European and Asian flavors from acclaimed Executive Chef Shigefumi Tachibe, then so be it. Did I also mention happiness comes from the Lobster Saffron Ravioli or a colossal tray of oysters and shrimp with cocktail sauce and lemons.

Barenjager Honey Liqueur Belongs In Your Tea
Apr 14th
Barenjager for Breakfast
The bottle was nearly finished before I realized this was a terrible idea. This was the worse idea in the best way possible not due to the taste but the way I used Barenjager. In the morning, I like to enjoy a cup of tea and honey. When I was introduced to honey liqueur I must have said something like “They do that? No way!” and my mornings were forever changed. I am now a morning person with a drinking problem. When honey liqueur goes in tea, it becomes dimensions of adjectives that are yet to be invented.
I am sure the Germans have been doing this for years. I found their secret and now I am sharing it with you. However the point is please don’t drink by yourself early in the morning unless it’s hidden or people will judge. Oh, they’ll judge.
The Barenjager Story From a Pamphlet
Created in Germany, Barenjager is made with real aromatic honey. Its recipe is based on a traditional honey beverage enjoyed for centuries in Germany. The name “Barenjager” means “bear hunter.” Hundreds of years ago, hunters used the sweet concoction to lure bears. These days, Barenjager lures folks with its sweet and delicious taste.

LA Beer Fest is Like Disneyland But With Beer and I am Belligerent
Apr 12th

The Los Angeles Beer Fest was held in beautiful Sony Studios in Culver City. We started out the day with making pretzel necklaces to pass out to our fellow beer drinkers. Due to the time limit and the lack of a Chinese sweatshop assembly line we were only able to make a few but to those that received one we washed our hands. We swear. More >

Duck in a Taco, and It’s Not Cute at All
At the age of 7 I had a pet duck. His name was Duck. Duck is the only word that describes both an animal and an action because clearly you can’t elephant under someone. Eating duck should be difficult for me, but it’s not since all my sympathy has crumbled into tiny tasty scrumptious duck tacos with respectable sauces. Look for the wasabi guacamole and ginger pico de gallo. I want it on everything. More >
The Edison Radio Room Preview
Mar 30th
Thanks to EaterLA we had a chance for a sneak peek of the Edison’s Radio Room (without major crowds). I no longer dislike the use of the word “mixologist” because clearly these drinks kicked my ass. The Edison has collected master mixologists from all over the country to bring their tastiest concoctions to your face. Case in point, I got this great one with an ice block chunk in a teeny frosty cup. I think i have a small cup fetish.
Really, you can’t lose with the Radio Room. I have a weakness for tapas so their cheese, fruit, nut, tapenade, and nomnom platters hit the spot, but were not to be outdone by the snazzy oyster bar. This event fits the bill for a classy night out when you need it most, Tuesday nights. The cover is reasonable at ten dollars but the drink prices will be higher since it is a celebration of the art of getting wasted. P.S. if you celebrate this art form a little too much, the fine folks at the Edison mentioned to us that the new O Hotel has opened right down the street.
