Chicago’s Pat Bertoletti Downs 264 Gyozas at the 5th Annual Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship

Eating contests are never pretty, just watch an episode of Adam Richman’s Man V. Food. Last weekend, in downtown Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo, top MLE (Major League Eating) competitors like Matt Stonie, Sonya Thomas and Patrick Bertoletti came to compete for $5,000 and bragging rights at the 5th annual gorge-fest that is the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship and joined by hundreds of spectators. The previous record was held by 2011 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion, Joey Chestnut with 231 gyozas. And this time the record was broken by number two competitive eater in America, Chicago’s Patrick Bertoletti with 264 gyozas in ten minutes. More >

Jimmy is connecting to a whole generation of customers that tweet, Facebook and check-in on Foursquare. The Entrepreneurship Spirit of Two Homebrewers

It’s the tale of two men with their entrepreneurial spirit and love for craft beer. Homebrewers Mike Reinhardt and Nate Watson of Kansas City, MO are looking to fund their nano-brewery on Kickstarter, a website platform that allows people to find funding for their ventures. As of now, Mike and Nate have about $17,000 left to raise by August 4. We interviewed Mike and Nate about their endeavors, homebrewing and Jimmy Carter.

Meet the Homebrewers of Los Angeles – Skipp Shelly

Did you know the American Homebrewer’s Association National Homebrewers Conference is coming up in only two weeks? Last year’s festival in was in Minneapolis, MN with 1,200 homebrewers, professional craft brewers and beer enthusiasts in attendance. This year the conference will take place in San Diego, and L.A.’s homebrewers are readying their beer (and liver) for the three-day event.
For our fourth spotlight on L.A.-area homebrewers we were in for a treat when Skipp Shelly shared an abundance of his homebrewed goodness with us — including homemade mead and cheese — out of his quaint homebrewery and garden in Echo Park, CA. More >
Stone Brewing Co.’s Stone Farms in Escondido to Supply Local, Organic, Sustainable Produce [PHOTOS]

Today Stone Brewing Co. announced the launch of another new adventure: Stone Farms, a new small-scale farm that will supply organic and sustainable produce to be used at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens. The farm will also function as a source of educational field trips for local schools, a venue for special events and potentially as land for hop growth! (Hops would be more for fun, but hey, we could still watch them grow a bit today.) More >

Inside Look at the Oldest Homebrewing Club in America — Meet the Maltose Falcons

The Maltose Falcons Homebrewing Club brewed at home before homebrewing was cool. The club was founded in 1974 by Merlin Elhardt and others who wanted European beer flavors. In order to have these beers in the U.S., they had to learn how to make it themselves!
