Judging from the name Brü Haus, one might picture a place that serves frothy beer from a bartender strapped in a lederhosen with a traditional German band playing in the background. This however is not the case. West L.A.’s new spot Brü Haus puts a contemporary spin on the currently hip German style restaurant.
Bier Bitte
Co-owner and General Manager Wen Yeh tells us, “We’re a mix of Father’s Office and Wurstkuche.” They have 25 beers on tap and 30 bottles — not to mention a full bar. Among the selection are rare beers such as Ommegang Rare Vos and Saphir Bock. They also offer a $45 bottle of Deus-Brut Des Flanders (sparkling beer) for the more refined beer drinker.
Featuring rare and unique beers from the states and Germany is a priority. Wen adds, “We’ll eventually have beer tastings with different breweries like North Coast Brewing Company. For Oktoberfest we plan to have a whole line up pretty much of all German beers. And we’re going to get a lot of seasonals that are rare.”

Brats, Franks and Schnitzel, Oh My!
After you have a pint or a beer flight, you can have a snack from the simple yet clever menu. With choices from traditional sausages, a Giant Bavarian Pretzel served with nacho cheese, yellow and Dijon mustard to Sweet Potater Tots and Haus Pickles, there’s something for everyone. There are also vegan sausage options — the Vegan Mexican Chipotle and the Vegan Smoke Apple Sage. Head Chef Charlie Hwang explains, “We’re trying to keep it as simple as possible, the menu is not very extensive.” The menu also includes the Brü Burger and the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich, the chicken cutlet is in the place of the more traditional pork.
Getting Saucy
In the midst of all the German food staples, Charlie is proud to serve their house-made trademarked sauce, Beetchup™, which helped him win the Best Technique Award at the Grilled Cheese Invitational a few years back. This magenta-colored yummy condiment goes great with fries and really jazzes up the traditionally boring and predictable beet. Who knew the a super food could be so saucy?
The creativity and inventiveness is an indication of what the people here are capable of so good things are brewing! Brü Haus is currently in soft open mode and officially opens June 11.
