LA Beer Week Closing Festival 2011: Photo Recap

Beer lovers lined up at the entrance of Union Station waiting for their commemorative glass of unlimited beer access. Boneyard Bistro and The Bruery’s 12 Course Meal: Beer Highlighted Dinner with Patrick Rue & Aaron Robins

We wrote about the epic 12 course beer and food pairing that was held at Boneyard Bistro about a couple weeks ago and were on scene for the event. Chef/owner of Boneyard Bistro, Aaron Robins, and brewer/owner Patrick Rue of The Bruery put on a dinner whose focus was on beer. No special theme was featured, instead, Chef Aaron directed his creativity towards the flavor profiles in pairing Patrick’s beers, creating a marathon whose emphasis was on good eats. In Aaron’s words, “we’re going balls to the wall. We’re going bigger than pretty much anyone we can think of.” More >
CANFEST 2011: Third Annual Canned Beer Festival in Reno

CANFEST is making its way back to Reno on November 12. Canned beer continues to shed it’s inferior reputation, partly due to events like CANFEST, which was the first international canned beer festival. They attribute the interest because beer drinkers “realize that cans offer superior protection from sunlight and oxygen infiltration.” According to the craftcans.com database, over 130 craft breweries can at least one of their beers. Deconstructed LA: Introducing Firestone Walker Brewing Co.’s Newest Anniversary Beer with Matt Brynildson & Sean Z. Paxton

Paso Robles, CA’s Firestone Walker Brewing Co. debuted their latest anniversary beer, XV, on October 12th. To kick off the brew, an eight course pairing held at the Avalon’s Bardot Room in Hollywood was conceived by “Homebrew Chef” Sean Z. Paxton with the theme of deconstruction. The intent was to take the eight beers that comprise Matt Brynildson’s blend, XV, and pair them with foods to bring out their intricacies. Ultimately, the goal was to better understand and appreciate the anniversary beer that will be available for purchase at the their brewery on November 5, and to Firestone Walker vendors shortly after. Southern California’s, The Bruery, and Deleware’s, Dogfish Head Brewery have combined their talents and created their new beer FBBB(GQS), Faster, Bigger, Better, Bolder (Gradually, Quietly, Steadily). The brew is meant to serve as “an homage to the contrasting lifestyle views of American excess set against the more humble and traditional ways of Japan.” With this intent, they’ve created a beer of excess that still holds to tradition. New Belgium Brewing’s Tour de Fat is Back in Town

New Belgium Brewing Company’s festival of bikes, music, and carnival fame makes their second appearance at the L.A. Historic Park. Named after New Belgium’s best known brew, Fat Tire, the event raises awareness of the “positive societal offerings of the bicycle.” Saturday’s free to attend event includes a bike parade, concerts, and a car for bike trade to name a few. 5 Things You Didn’t Know about Squid Fishing

We took a fishing boat out to sea in Orange County, but not to catch fish. We caught calamari! Well, not quite, it’s before the batter and the deep-fryer. Humboldt squid are an inconsistent catch in Southern California because they just don’t show up some years. Well, this year they showed up and were quite tasty. Be prepared to get dirty as they shoot ink everywhere with the boat’s deck usually black by the time your headed back into the harbor. LA Beer Week, bringing out the best of all that is beer, is the chosen time-frame for Firestone Walker to debut their 15th Anniversary beer in Los Angeles, XV, a blend of eight different barrel-aged beers. Deconstruction LA is the theme of the event where the plan is to “breakdown the brewery’s rarest beer blend into its key components aided by the genius of Sean Z. Stone Brewing Co. Releasing New Book with Recipes, History of Stone and More

If you love everything about Stone Brewing Co., then you might be interested in the release of their book, The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.: Liquid Lore, Epic Recipes, and Unabashed Arrogance The book contains a behind the scenes look at 15 years of Stone Brewing Co., a history of beer, how to pour and store beer, a primer to pairing beers, recipes that use Stone beers, and more. The release is kicked off with an event at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens (1999 Citracado Pkwy, Escondido, CA) on Sept 27 with Co-owners Greg Koch, Steve Wagner, and Co-author Randy Clemens being available to sign books.
