El Segundo Brewing Company: It Was All A Dream

Christopher Wallace used to read Word Up! Magazine before he became the Notorious B.I.G., and Rob Croxall read a book about breweries back in college; both with a dream. El Segundo Brewing Company has been brewing beer at their El Segundo facility since April of this year. Come mid September they’ll be opening up their long awaited tap room offering IPA, pale ale and couple of “tap room only” selections. The Dish: Swamp Thing — Smoked Alligator Sausage from Brats Brothers

Guy Fieri might have gotten here first but since then Brats Brothers in Sherman Oaks, CA has moved across the street from its original location, serving bratwursts and sausages at a much appealing space. Swamp Thing is a Louisiana style spicy smoked alligator sausage served in a large French roll and topped with roasted peppers and onions. More >

In 1893, the United States Supreme Court classified it as a vegetable. Spain has an annual festival called “La Tomatina”, where thousands of people gather to throw them at each other. It’s the primary ingredient to one of the most popular condiments in America. It’s the preferred swimming pool of the grilled cheese sandwich. Chicago’s Pat Bertoletti Downs 264 Gyozas at the 5th Annual Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship

Eating contests are never pretty, just watch an episode of Adam Richman’s Man V. Food. Last weekend, in downtown Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo, top MLE (Major League Eating) competitors like Matt Stonie, Sonya Thomas and Patrick Bertoletti came to compete for $5,000 and bragging rights at the 5th annual gorge-fest that is the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship and joined by hundreds of spectators. The previous record was held by 2011 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion, Joey Chestnut with 231 gyozas. And this time the record was broken by number two competitive eater in America, Chicago’s Patrick Bertoletti with 264 gyozas in ten minutes. More >
