The 3rd Annual Beer Float Showdown, presented by FoodGPS.com, where five chefs are paired with five California breweries to create an original beer float wrapped up today. The judges were prominent beer and ice cream aficionados; the attendees. LA Beer Week officially kicked off last night at Naja’s Place in Redondo Beach, CA with a Stone Brewery Co. tap take over. About 50 different Stone beers were poured alongside catering by Stone Catering, serving BBQ duck and vegetarian tacos. Just North of Lake Isabella, best known for rafting, camping and hiking sits Kern River Brewing Company, Kernville, CA’s first brewpub. A brewery started five years ago by Eric and Rebecca Giddens and Brewmaster Kyle Smith. Recently at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, the team took home a gold medal for their Citra Double IPA beer (Imperial IPA category). Los Angelenos, if you don’t want to drive 165 miles north, here is your chance to try some of Kern River Brewing Company’s brews and meet the team behind the fermenters.
